About Smoke This BBQ Team

Smoke This began as a group of neighborhood friends cooking for large neighborhood parties.  Then, in 2004 a KCBS competition was held in our hometown of Hickory, NC.  We entered as a professional team although we had never cooked for anyone other than our friends--and had never cooked a brisket.  We finished 26th out of 42 teams--however, we may as well have been Grand Champions!  That contest further lit the fire, pun intended, and the rest is history.  From 2005-2007, we cooked a few contests here and there and in 2008 got more serious about competing.  Now, we cook between 20-25 contests a year, vend about five times year and routinely cater for various events.  We have have won five Grand Championships -Edenton, NC (2010), Maggie Valley, NC (2008, 2016), Cleveland, GA (2014) & Salisbury, NC (2015), 12 Reserve Grand Championships - Salisbury, NC('11), Lexington, NC('12), Greensboro, NC('12), Greer, SC('13), Chesapeake, VA('13), Franklin, NC('14), Maggie Valley, NC('15), Fort Mill, SC('15), Rocky Mount, NC('15), Hammond, LA ('16), Dillard, GA ('16) and Kings Mountain, NC ('17).  We have earned 89 top 10's and 34 top 5's. We have also accumulated 28 1st place finishes in the individual meat categories and 223 Top 10 category calls.

Traveling as far west as Arkansas and Louisiana as far north as Maryland and south to Florida to compete, Smoke This competes mainly in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.  In the future, we plan to compete in Mississippi, Alabama, Virginia and Tennessee.
